The Brandon Wheat Kings depart Wednesday for Red Deer and the 2016 Memorial Cup.
The club practiced both Monday and Tuesday in preparation for the event, which gets underway later this week.
The four-team tournament has a little different feel than what the team experienced during their extended run in the Western Hockey League playoffs.
"It's a tournament format, which is much different than a playoff series," said McCrimmon, "It's a Game Seven mentality each night you play, and you see where you shake out at the end of the round-robin and then you get ready for the closing weekend."
McCrimmon says it's also a little different to prepare for three teams, not one, but right now their main focus is on their opening opponent in the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, whom they open their round-robin against on Saturday night.
"We've got some things with our own game that we want to work on. We're going to play a similar game against each of the three teams that we play against but in terms of our preparation specifically, we'll worry about Rouyn-Noranda first."
McCrimmon adds that their schedule lays out well for preparation for the other two games, with the club having a day off between games each time.
Brandon faces the OHL champion London Knights on Monday and the host Red Deer Rebels next Wednesday (May 25).
Chaff...the Wheat Kings announced late Tuesday that a limited number of Memorial Cup ticket packages have become available through the hockey club on a first-come, first-serve basis. Contact the office at 204-726-3546 beginning at 9:00 a.m.
