It's WHL Awards Day Wednesday

The Western Hockey League will hand outs its hardware Wednesday in Calgary.

Two members of the Brandon Wheat Kings are finalists for WHL awards, with Ivan Provorov up for the Defenceman of the Year honour for the second straight year.

Provorov led all WHL defencemen in scoring and led the league with a +64 rating this season.

He's strying to become the first Wheat King to win the Bill Hunter Memorial Trophy since Brad McCrimmon in 1977-78 -- the only other time a Brandon player has captured the honour.

Tanner Kaspick is the Eastern Conference nominee for Scholastic Player of the Year.

If successful in capturing the league honour, Kaspick would become the sixth Wheat King to win the Daryl K. (Doc) Seaman Trophy and first since Keith Aulie in 2006-2007.

The Wheat Kings' organization is also a finalist for the WHL Marketing / Business Award -- an award the team has never won as an organization.

Wednesday's awards luncheon begins at 1:00 p.m. (CDT).
