The Brandon Wheat Kings made it a perfect 3-in-3 weekend with a 4-0 victory in Regina on Sunday.

Jordan Papirny stopped 22 shots for his third shutout in four starts while Jayce Hawryluk had two goals and an assist to pace Brandon offensively.

The Wheat Kings not only won all three games on their Saskatchewan road trip on the weekend, but increased their lead atop the East Division to seven points over the second-place Prince Albert Raiders.

“We have gone from a one point lead on Friday morning to a seven point lead here three nights later, so that part is encouraging,” said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon on CKLQ’s post-game show, “The other thing that’s encouraging is our team is playing real well.  That’s so important as you get into the second half...it’s going to be the teams that improve the most that play the longest.”

Brandon has surrendered just ten goals in winning seven of their last eight games, going 26-for-29 (89.7%) on the penalty-kill in that span including a perfect 13-for-13 in their three games this weekend.

Brandon’s other special team had a special weekend, going 7-for-16 (43.8%) with the man advantage.

“When you look at the games, special teams were important in each game,” added McCrimmon, “Again, that’s encouraging and something we want to continue to work at as we continue to get better.”

Tyler Coulter and Reid Duke also scored for the Wheat Kings in Sunday’s contest as Brandon improved their league-best road record to 16-6-1-0.

The Wheat Kings have four more road games before returning home for a February 5th matchup against Prince George.

They’ll play 3-in-3 next weekend in Alberta starting with a game against the Oil Kings on Edmonton on Friday.
