Wheat Kings Bounce Hitmen

Nolan Patrick scored twice in Sunday's
win.
It was a rebound performance for the Brandon Wheat Kings Sunday as they pulled out a 4-1 victory in Calgary.

Nolan Patrick scored twice for the Wheat Kings while Jordan Papirny made 39 saves in the Brandon net including stopping all 29 shots he faced over the final 40 minutes of the contest.

Brandon trailed 1-0 after 20 minutes but took the lead in the second on goals by Patrick and Stelio Mattheos.

The Mattheos goal came just over a minute after Brandon had successful killed off a 5-on-3 Calgary power-play chance.

Patrick extended the lead to two 1:49 into the third period and Tyler Coulter salted away the win with an empty-net goal.

The victory allowed Brandon to maintain their two-point lead over second-place Prince Albert in the East Division standings.

The Wheat Kings’ next game is Friday, when they host the Raiders (7:30 p.m., Westman Communications Group Place).

Chaff...Brandon scratched F John Quenneville (Cdn Jr. Team), D Ivan Provorov (Russian Jr. Team), F Tanner Kaspick (upper body), F Ty Lewis (lower body) and F Jayce Hawryluk (suspension)...Brandon was 0-for-2 on the power-play Sunday and 3-for-3 on the penalty-kill...according to my calculations, the Wheat Kings have lost 71 man-games due to injury so far this season and another 52 to players absences (NHL, suspensions, International Tournaments and misc.).
