Hitmen Double Wheat Kings

  The Brandon Wheat Kings closed out a 3-in-3 Alberta road trip with a 6-3 loss to the Calgary Hitmen on Sunday night.

  Jackson Houck had two goals and an assist to pace Calgary offensively while Kale Clague, Tim McGauley and Duncan Campbell scored for the Wheat Kings.

  It was a penalty-filled affair that saw the teams combine for 19 power-play chances (including five 5-on-3’s) and 118 penalty-minutes.

  Brandon product Jordy Stallard had a goal and an assist for Calgary while Elkhorn’s Travis Sanheim added two assists for the Hitmen to run his point-streak to 12 games.

  Cody Porter made 25 saves in the Calgary net while Logan Thompson stopped five of eight shots before being pulled 8:45 into the contest.

  Jordan Papirny made 23 saves after entering the game.

  The loss leaves Brandon with a six-point lead over second-place Prince Albert in the East Division standings and one point behind second-place Red Deer in the Eastern Conference standings.

  The Wheat Kings conclude their stretch of seven straight road games Tuesday night when they visit the Moose Jaw Warriors (6:35 p.m. CST, 880 CKLQ).

Chaff...Brandon F Garrett Armour missed Sunday’s game after being suspended by the WHL for a checking-to-the-head major he was assessed in Saturday’s victory in Red Deer.  The length of the suspension has yet to be determined...F Stelio Mattheos (upper body) re-joined Brandon’s injury list and sat out Sunday while F Linden McCorrister (upper body), F Tanner Kaspick (upper body) and F Connor Gutenberg (lower body) were Brandon’s other scratches...Brandon F John Quenneville played his 200th career game Sunday while D Ivan Provorov played in his 100th career game.
