Brandon Wheat Kings' defenceman Ivan Provorov has signed his entry-level contract with the Philadelphia Flyers.
The signing of the standard three-year deal was announced on Friday evening, and comes a week after the Flyers selected Provorov with the seventh overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft.
Provorov led all WHL rookies in scoring last season with 15 goals and 61 points in 60 games with the Wheat Kings, while he also helped Russia capture a silver medal at the 2015 World Junior Hockey Championship.
The signing of the 6-foot-0, 201 pound Provorov will now, almost immediately, shift the question to
whether or not he'll be able to make the Flyers' roster on a full-time basis this fall.
If he doesn't stick with Philadelphia, he'll return to Brandon and the Western Hockey League for the entire season.
First up, however, for the Russian blueliner will be participating in the Flyers' development camp that begins on Tuesday.
By the way, the entry-level contract Provorov signed with Philadelphia Friday has an anticipated cap his of the maximum $925,000 and likely includes some performance bonuses that are, as of yet, unknown.
