Ferland Free of Legal Trouble

Michael Ferland
Calgary Flames' forward and former Wheat King Michael Ferland says he wants to focus on hockey now that a civil lawsuit against him has been dropped.

Jayson Eyma had alleged that Ferland sucker-punched him in the face during a scuffle outside a Cochrane, Alberta bar in July 2012, leaving him with a fracture that required surgery.

Ferland, who was acquitted of criminal charges, has always said he was defending himself, his aunt and his girlfriend from an unprovoked attack.

The lawyers for the Brandon product say Ferland  did not make any settlement payment, but has dropped a counterclaim in which he was seeking damages for the fight and for malicious prosecution.
