The Raiders jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the opening 20 minutes and extended that to 4-0 early in the second period before Brandon scored the next four goals to tie the contest by the second intermission.
Jayce Hawryluk had a hat-trick in his return to the Wheat Kings lineup after a 13-game absence due to an upper body injury while Tim McGauley also scored for Brandon to extend his point-scoring streak to 15 games.
“There was more to our game that the score would indicate, otherwise we would have never gotten back into the game because we wouldn’t have been playing good enough,” said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon on CKLQ’s post-game show, “Our game wasn’t as far off the mark as you’d think and based on that, we were able to grab the momentum for the rest of the game, really.”
Simon Stransky snapped a 4-4 tie 1:10 into the third period while Austin Glover completed the scoring with an empty-net goal, his second of the contest.
The loss ended Brandon’s nine-game road winning streak and ended a streak to 16 consecutive games with at least a point for the Wheat Kings, a stretch during which the club went 14-0-1-1.
“We never talked about what number the streak was at or anything else like that. It ties into what we’re trying to do as a team, which is continue get better,” said McCrimmon, “That’s been our focus, and that’s tied in with some success.”
Brandon (42-10-4-2) will conclude their two-game Saskatchewan road trip by visiting the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday night (6:35 p.m., 880 CKLQ).
