Klimchuk Nets GWG in BWK Debut

Morgan Klimchuk had the GWG and an assist in his
Wheat Kings' debut on Saturday
The Brandon Wheat Kings ran their winning streak to five games on Saturday night with a 7-4 victory over the visiting Calgary Hitmen.

Jayce Hawryluk had two goals and an assist for Brandon while Morgan Klimchuk scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in his Wheat Kings' debut.

Brandon trailed 3-1 midway through the second period but scored three times in a three minute and 34 second span to turn the deficit into a 4-3 lead through 40 minutes.

After Michael Zipp scored four minutes into the third period to tie the contest, Klimchuk netted the winning just over 90 seconds later before Tim McGauley and Hawryluk salted things away with empty-net goals.

"Felt the first period we were a little uptight and weren't playing our game," said Hawryluk on CKLQ's post-game show, "Going into the break, we loosened up and changed up our game and we stuck to it and didn't stray from it the rest of the game."

Hawryluk has five goals and eight points in the five games Brandon has played since their ten-day Christmas break, a break the Florida Panthers' second round pick felt he needed.

"The Christmas break was definitely huge to get re-energized and come back all healthy," said Hawryluk, "I was injured going into the break so it was huge to have those nine days to recover and get re-energized."

Rihards Bukarts scored twice for Brandon with Nolan Patrick adding a goal and two assists as the Wheat Kings maintained their six-point lead over second-place Medicine Hat in the Eastern Conference standings.

Brandon's next game is Tuesday when they entertain the U.S. Division-leading Everett Silvertips (7:00 p.m., Westman Communications Group Place).
