Pats Complete Sweep of Wheat Kings

The Regina Pats completed a home-and-home sweep of the Wheat Kings Friday night, downing Brandon 3-2 at Westman Communications Group Place.

Adam Brooks scored twice for Regina including the game-winning goal at 8:56 of the third period, snapping a 2-2 tie and leaving the Wheat Kings with back-to-back losses for just the second time this season.

Brandon couldn't capitalize on a number of scoring chances in the contest including a great Daniel Wapple save on Brandon's Jesse Gabrielle with just under a minute remaining in the third period.

"That's probably the tale of the tape at the end of the net, including the final minute of play when we had the goalie out and had some chances and didn't score," said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon on CKLQ's post-game show, "It was a close game, we got the game tied early in the third and, for me, that should have put us in the driver's seat as far as the last 15 minutes of the game and we didn't button it down."

Braden Christoffer had the other goal for the Pats, the only goal of the first period, before Brooks scored early in the second to give Regina a 2-0 lead.

Nolan Patrick's power-play goal at 11:19 of the second period got Brandon to within one, and then Quintin Lisoway scored scored the game-tying goal 1:23 into the third period for the Wheat Kings.

"In the first period, we came out a little slow and we were kind of watching them too much," said Lisoway, "Through the second and third, I thought our guys really battled and battled hard.  We just need to find a way to put the puck in the net when it really matters."

Jordan Papirny made 35 saves in the Brandon net while Wapple finished with 32 saves in the Regina goal.

The Wheat Kings (21-7-2-0) look to get back in the win column Saturday night when they visit the Swift Current Broncos (6:35 p.m., 880 CKLQ).
