Quenneville Set Back to Brandon

John Quenneville was assigned back to Brandon by the
New Jersey Devils on Wednesday.
John Quenneville is on his way back to the Wheat Kings.

The New Jersey Devils assigned their 2014 first round draft pick back to Brandon Wednesday, although he is expected to skate with the Devils Thursday before beginning the trek back to the Wheat City.

The 18-year old Quenneville should still arrive back in time to make his season debut with the Wheat Kings Friday when they host the Saskatoon Blades (7:30 p.m., Westman Communications Group Place).

Meanwhile, Richard Nejezchleb was assigned by the New York Rangers to the training camp of the American Hockey League's Hartford Wolf Pack Wednesday.

The 20-year old has yet to sign with the Rangers, something he'd need to do before playing pro this season.

And Wheat Kings' forward Jayce Hawryluk made his NHL pre-season debut Wednesday in the Florida Panthers 4-3 shootout loss to the Dallas Stars.

Hawryluk saw 11:36 of icetime, going pointless with one shot, a -1 rating and being assessed a goaltender interference penalty in the third period.

The 18-year old Hawryluk is expected to return to the Wheat Kings this season, but Florida is playing split squad games in Nashville Saturday so it may not happen before that.
