Wheat Kings Tab Mattheos at #1

Wheat Kings' GM Kelly McCrimmon makes #1
pick in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft
The Brandon Wheat Kings made Winnipeg product Stelio Mattheos the fourth Manitoban to be chosen first overall in the WHL Bantam Draft.

Mattheos is a 6-foot-2 1/2, 177 pound centre, who scored 65 goals and 124 points in 42 regular season and playoff games with the Provincial champion Winnipeg Monarchs during the 2013-2014 season.

"A real good hockey player.  A great combination of size and skill, he's a real powerful skater, he's got the ability to score, he's got high character," says Brandon GM Kelly McCrimmon, "We think he'll be a great addition to our organization and will complement some of the young players we've taken in the past."

Among the other picks in the first round was Roblin product Josh Brook, who met fourth overall to the Moose Jaw Warriors.

Brook, a defenceman, had 26 points in 32 games with the AA Midget Notre Dame Hounds during the 2013-2014 season.
