Ex Raider Faces Former Team

Tyler Yaworski faces his former team for the first time
on Friday
Tyler Yaworski gets to face his former team for the first time Friday night when the Brandon Wheat Kings host the Prince Albert Raiders (7:35 p.m., Westman Communications Group Place).

Yaworski was acquired by Brandon in August for a fifth round pick in the 2013 Bantam Draft after spending three seasons with the Raiders.

"It's obviously crossed my mind but, to me, it's just another game for us as the Wheat Kings," said Yaworski after Thursday's practice, "It's an important two points for us to get back on track here, get back to .500 and start a little bit of a winning streak for us."

The Wheat Kings haven't won back-to-back games since starting the regular season with four consecutive victories but are coming off a 5-3 road victory in Lethbridge their last time out on Sunday.

Brandon is currently sitting a game under the .500 mark at 10-11-2-1 on the season.

Prince Albert, meanwhile, is leading the WHL's East Division standings after missing the playoffs in 2011-2012.

"I have some friends on there and it's nice to see that they're off to a better start," said Yaworski, "In saying that, my team's Brandon.  I'm focused on us and getting us back to .500 here."

The 20-year old Yaworski has three goals, seven points and a team-leading +15 rating so far in his first season with the Wheat Kings.

"We have a really good young team here.  Our young guys have been playing well and so have our older guys and it’s a very exciting time in Brandon," added Yaworski, "I think once we sort out some of the consistency issues, we’ll be a very good team to watch here in the near future."

Brandon is expected to be missing a couple of veteran players this weekend including leading scorer Alessio Bertaggia, who would miss his second straight with a lower body injury.

Jens Meilleur (lower body) is also out while Ryan Pulock and Tyrel Seaman haven't practiced this week because of illness.

Meantime, import forward Richard Nejezchleb has practiced this week after missing 15 games with a shoulder injury and could return to the lineup this weekend.

Chaff...Brandon was 5-1-0-0 against the Raiders last season and are 23-7-0-2 against Prince Albert over the past five seasons including a 14-2-0-0 record in Brandon...the Raiders are leading the East Division despite being 22nd in the WHL in power-play success (13.6%) and 20th in penalty-killing (75.0%)...Brandon product Carson Perreaux has two goals, five points and a +8 rating in 24 games in his sophmore season with the Raiders while former Wheat King Dakota Conroy has nine goals and 17 points in 21 games since being acquired by Prince Albert from Victoria early this season.
