Key PPG's Pace Wheat Kings Past Giants

The Brandon Wheat Kings broke a three-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Giants on Wednesday night.

Nick Buonassisi and Tim McGauley scored power-play goals 1:18 apart early in the third period to snap a 1-1 tie.

“They weren’t textbook plays but we shot the puck, and that’s what we’ve been talking about,” said Brandon assistant coach Darren Ritchie on CKLQ’s post-game show, “Obviously, it was a game-winner from our power-play which has been desperately needing one.”

Buonassisi also scored in the second period as he broke a nine-game goalless drought while Corbin Boes stopped 27 shots in the Wheat Kings’ net including 14 in the third period alone.

“He worked through it and made some big saves, and got a couple of posts too…sometimes you need a little luck like that,” added Ritchie, “He probably had more quality shots tonight then he’s faced for a while so we need to fix that up a little bit.”

The Wheat Kings improved to 2-2-1-0 on their current road trip with two games yet to be played in Kamloops Friday and Prince George on Saturday.
