Day one of the 2012 Brandon Wheat Kings Main Training Camp has come to an end at Westman Communications Group Place.

Local product Tyler Coulter scored twice and Dallas Starodub had a goal and an assist as Team Gold scored six unanswered goals en route to a 6-1 victory over Team White in the second and final scrimmage of the day.

In the early game, Hunter Smith's overtime goal lifted Team Black to a 6-5 victory over Team Gold. Veteran defenceman Eric Roy scored twice for the winners while two rookies - John Quenneville and Jordan Bochinski added four points each as the Blacks built up a 6-2 lead before winning in the extra session.

Taylor Cooper scored three times in a losing cause for Team Gold, who also got a goal from Coulter, who wound up with three in two games on Friday.

A member of the Brandon AAA Midget Wheat Kings in 2011-12, Coulter scored 26 goals and 47 points in 44 games last season.

Friday's win by Team Gold featured solid netminding from veteran Corbin Boes and 15-year old rookie Logan Thompson. The two combined to stop 22 of 23 shots in posting the victory.

The night game also featured the Training Camp debut for 18-year old Richard Nejezchleb of the Czech Republic. Brandon's first round selection in June's Canadian Hockey League Import Draft, the 6'2" 212 lb right-winger failed to score but did show flashes at different times throughout the game.

A member of the Slavia Praha U20 team last season, Nejezchleb had eleven goals and 23 points in 24 games in 2011-12.

Team White, which features the likes of veterans Daniel Asham, Rene Hunter and Ayrton Nikkel as well as rookies Jayce Hawryluk, Braylon Shmyr and Ryley Lindgren will look to bounce back on Saturday morning when they take to the ice against Team Black at 9:30 at Westman Place.

Following Saturday morning's game, a number of cuts will be made in preparation for the fourth and final scrimmage of Main Camp Saturday night at 6pm.

The five-day Training Camp will draw to a close on Sunday afternoon when the Wheat Kings will host their annual Intrasquad Game. Game time is 2pm.
