The Brandon Wheat Kings 2012 Main Camp kicked off Friday morning and in the first of two scrimmage games on the day, it was Team Black scoring a 7-6 Overtime victory over Team Gold.

Hunter Smith of Carlyle, Saskatchewan scored the game winner for the Blacks, who built up a 6-2 lead before seeing the Golds battle back to force the extra session.

Veteran defenceman Eric Roy scored twice for the winners while rookies John Quenneville and Jordan Bochinski chipped in four points each. A third round bantam draft pick of the Wheat Kings in 2011, the 6' 194 Quenneville is coming off a season that saw him score fifteen goals and 33 points in thirty games for the SSAC Boston Pizza Athletics in Alberta.

Bochinski meanwhile is an undrafted 16-year old right-winger from Edmonton who spent the 2011-12 season with the Winnipeg AAA Midget Sharks.

17-year old Taylor Cooper meanwhile had three goals and an assist in a losing cause while the line of Dallas Starodub, Wade Allison and Kord Pankewicz combined for two goals and six points.

Brandon's sixth round pick in the 2010 bantam draft, Cooper averaged more than a point per game with the Sherwood Park United AAA Midget Cycle last season. In 34 games, the 6' 180 lb Sherwood Park, Alberta product scored 21 goals and 46 points.
