Wheat Kings Add Buonassisi

The Brandon Wheat Kings added to their 20-year old stable Sunday night, acquiring forward Nick Buonassisi from the Lethbridge Hurricanes for a fifth round pick in the 2014 Bantam Draft.

Buonassisi had 16 goals and 49 points in a combined 69 games with Prince George and Lethbridge last season.

“This trade adds an experienced offensive forward to our team, which we felt we needed,” said Wheat Kings' GM Kelly McCrimmon in a release, “Nick has been a consistent performer posting back to back 50 point seasons, and while scouting Lethbridge last year, we were impressed with his play.”

Sunday’s deal marks the second time in two weeks that the Wheat Kings have added an overage veteran to their lineup

Earlier this month, Brandon obtained veteran defenceman Tyler Yaworski from the Prince Albert Raiders.

The Wheat Kings will open camp this week with four 20-year olds on their active roster in Yaworski and Buonassisi, blueliner Ryley Miller and forward Dominick Favreau.
