Gabrielle Brandon's Possible 'Steal' of 2012

Jesse Gabrielle could be the steal of the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft for the Brandon Wheat Kings.

The 15-year old was a fifth round pick of the club (100th overall) but many scouts feel he had top-40 talent, falling because of concerns about whether he'd commit to playing in the Western Hockey League after moving from Moosomin, Saskatchewan to Minnesota three years ago.

"The WHL is what I want do..that is probably my first choice, by far," said Gabrielle at Wheat Kings' Rookie Camp on Wednesday, "There's rumour that I wanted to go (Division One) but my goal right now is to make the Wheat Kings next year, develop and, hopefully, I can play a couple of games next year."

The 5-foot-10, 186 pound Gabrielle played alongside fellow 2012 Wheat Kings' draft pick Dakota Boutin (3rd Round, 50th overall) during his minor hockey career in Moosomin and says it would be 'neat' if they ended up playing together with Brandon in the future.

"We played for a couple of years together with the Moosomin Rangers, we were always on the same line, so it was really exciting when he got drafted here, especially someone that you know," said Gabrielle, "That'd be really exciting (if we ended up playing together in Brandon), especially if we maybe were on the same line...a little childhood line there, that would be pretty cool."

Gabrielle describes himself as a gritty power forward who likes to take the puck deep, working his strength in the corner, playing gritty in the front of the net and bang in some rebound goals.
