Cooper Stars in Morning Scrimmage

A line made up of two 16-year olds and one 17-year old dominated play Thursday morning as the second and final day of Brandon Wheat Kings' Rookie Camp got underway at Westman Communications Group Place.

The line of Taylor Cooper, Ryley Lindgren and MacKenzie Bauer combined for twelve points in leading Team White to an 11-6 victory over Team Black.

A sixth round bantam draft choice of the Wheat Kings in the 2010 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft, Cooper scored three goals and set up another while Lindgren added two goals, five points and Bauer chipped in a goal and two assists.

Lindgren was a fifth round pick (96th overall) of the Wheat Kings in 2011 while Bauer was chosen in round eight (165th overall).

15-year old defenceman Tyler Anderson scored twice in a losing cause for Team Black, who trailed 7-2 early in the second period.

With close to seventy players attending Rookie Camp, the hockey club's coaching and scouting staff will now separate them into four teams in order to play two final scrimmage games Thursday night.

Game one will be played at 5pm with the final scheduled for 7pm. Both games are open to the public and there is no admission charge.

Following tonight's games, a number of prospects will be invited to the Wheat Kings' Main Camp that gets underway at 8am Friday.

The hockey club's 5-day camp will conclude Sunday afternoon at 2pm with the annual Canad Inns Intrasquad game.
