Wheat Kings Acquire Maguire from 'Tips

Brandon Wheat Kings’ general manager Kelly McCrimmon has announced the acquisition of 17-year old left-winger Geordie Maguire and future considerations from the Western Hockey League’s Everett Silvertips.

A fifth round bantam draft choice of the ‘Tips in 2010, Maguire is coming off an outstanding season with the Winnipeg AAA Midget Wild that saw the 6’ 165 lb product lead the Manitoba AAA Midget League in scoring with 40 goals and 77 points in 42 regular season games.

"We are excited to add a top young player of Geordie's ability," says McCrimmon. "He will complement our other top forwards in this age group."

"He has exceptional speed, and is a talented offensive player," he went on to say. "We look forward to adding him to our team."

In exchange for Maguire, Everett receives the Wheat Kings’ fifth round pick in next spring’s bantam draft as well as the playing rights to 20-year old goalkeeper Brandon Anderson.

Anderson, who split the 2011-12 campaign between Lethbridge and Brandon, compiled a 15-17-3 record, a 3.92 goals against average and a .890 save percentage in 37 games.
