Shmyr Making, Getting Good First Impression

Braylon Shmyr in action at Wheat Kings' Prospects
Camp on Saturday
Braylon Shmyr is getting his first taste of being a member of the Brandon Wheat Kings' organization this weekend.

Shmyr was Brandon's first round pick in last month's WHL Bantam Draft and the Calgary product is enjoying his first camp as a Wheat King.

"As soon as I walked in the rink, I thought wow," said Shmyr on Saturday, "This is so big and everything is really good. My first impression was that this is going to be a good experience."

Shmyr finished fourth in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League in scoring last season with 38 goals and 69 points.

He describes himself as a player with a lot of offensive instincts.

"A lot of playmaking, a lot of passing," said the 5-foot-8, 140 pound Shmyr, "Just kind of make that one quick move and just give up the puck and create a lot of scoring chances for myself to score goals."

Shmyr is one of 34 players taking part in this weekend's Prospects Camp.

One player who isn't is 2011 first round pick Kord Pankewicz after he suffered a knee injury at a tournament in Vancouver two weeks ago.

The Wheat Kings' Prospects Camp concludes Sunday with an intrasquad game at 10:00 a.m. (Westman Communications Group Place).
