Prospects Camp this Weekend

Taylor Cooper will be among the players taking part in
this weekend's Prospects Camp
The Brandon Wheat Kings are set to host their Prospects Camp this weekend.

About 35 players are expected to take part including all 14 of the club's picks in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.

"Those players were drafted a month ago so it's basically an orientation for those families, to get to meet us and vice-versa and some will see our building for the first time," said Wheat Kings' GM Kelly McCrimmon, "It's a camp we've gained a lot of value from and we'll continue to do this."

Ice sessions for the Prospect Camp are:

(All the ice sessions will take place at Westman Communications Group Place)

Friday, June 1
4:00 p.m. - Team White Practice
5:15 p.m. - Team Black Practice

Saturday, June 2
8:00 a.m. - Team Black Practice
9:00 a.m. - Team White Practice

Sunday, June 3
10:00 a.m. - Black vs White Intrasquad Game

All sessions will be open to the public and the weekend Camp, which will be under the direction of Wheat Kings' assistant coaches Dwayne Gylywoychuk and Darren Ritchie.

"The value is that it's a small camp, with only your non-roster players from your protected list so it's a great chance to spend some time with those players and the families," said McCrimmon, "It's a great opportunity to assess the improvement or development the players have gained over the past season."

In addition to seeing the 2012 draft picks for the first time, players I expect to have a legitimate shot at playing with the Wheat Kings in 2012-2013 are the others I'll be looking forward to seeing.

Chaff...one 'prospect' that won't take part in camp is D Colton Waltz, who had surgery to remove a bone spur in his foot at the end of last season and is just starting to resume skating...check out Ken Wiebe's article on Brandon product and New Jersey Devils' defenceman Bryce Salvador here.
