The Saskatoon Blades scored four goals in the third period to beat the Brandon Wheat Kings 6-2 on Friday night.

Ryan Olsen had two goals and an assist, Matej Stransky a goal and three assists and Josh Nicholls a goal and a helper as the Blades' top line combined for nine points.

Alessio Bertaggia and Paul Ciarelli scored for the Wheat Kings, who were down 2-1 going into the final frame.

"Anytime you're at home, you definitely need to let the other team know earlier on that when they come into our building, it's going to be a tough game," said Ciarell on CKLQ's post-game show, "I think the 60 minute effort wasn't there, and that's what kind of killed us tonight."

Brandon had their share of offensive opportunities, hitting two cross-bars in the first 40 minutes and a couple of goal posts during the third period.

"When you aren't sharp, intense and focused, often you don't bury those chances. We had some really good chances and we just didn't make them pay," said Brandon coach Cory Clouston, "We missed nets, at least three or four really good opportunities, we didn't even get shots on net...we can't not bury those, we have to be good around the net."

The loss leaves the eighth-place Wheat Kings three points behind both Saskatoon and Regina in the Eastern Conference standings.

Brandon will host the Blades again on Saturday night (7:35 p.m., Westman Communications Group Place).

Chaff...Brandon has now lost five of seven games against the Blades this season including two of three on home ice...the loss prevented the Wheat Kings from clinching a playoff spot for the 12th consecutive season...the Stanley Cup will be at the Wheat Kings’ home game Saturday night as part of the Scotiabank ‘Celebration of Hockey’ program.
