Melnychuk's Milestone and Other Notes

Brodie Melnychuk hit a pretty significant milestone over the weekend, playing his 300th career game Saturday night in Swift Current.

I had a chance to talk to Brodie about the achievement prior to Saturday's contest, and he was very complimentary about the Wheat Kings' organization and what they've done for him during his five years with the team.

Take a listen...

A couple of other leftover notes from the weekend:

- former Wheat King Travis Hamonic will be out of the New York Islanders lineup for at least a couple of week after taking a deflect puck to the face on Saturday. More from Newsday.

- former Wheat King Jordin Tootoo shared his story of rehabilitation and sobriety along with Predators' teammate Brian McGrattan on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday. Check out the feature here...

- I mentioned in Saturday's game story that Taylor Cooper and John Quenneville were two Wheat Kings' prospects who were playing in Sunday's Alberta AAA Midget Hockey League All-Star game. Brandon, in fact, had a third prospect play as the club recently listed Nick Josephs, a 1994-born forward who is tied for third in the AMHL in scoring with 24 goals and 45 points in 27 games with the Calgary Flames.
