Bertaggia Looks to Add Secondary Scoring

Alessio Bertaggia
The Brandon Wheat Kings look for a third straight win on Friday night when they host the Swift Current Broncos (7:30 p.m., Westman Communications Group Place).

The Wheat Kings are looking for some secondary scoring as the bulk of the team's offence the last few games has come from the top line of Mark Stone, Michael Ferland and Brenden Walker.

Among the players who haven't produced regularly in the second half is import Alessio Bertaggia, who has two goals and six points in 16 games since returning from the World Junior Hockey Championship.

"Obviously, we have a lot of skill on this team and other teammates need to stand up and make some points," said Bertaggia after practice on Thursday, "I know everybody's is trying to work hard and get points so we'll see."

Bertaggia has been a streaky scorer this season, registering seven goals and 14 points in the first 11 games of the season, going the next 11 games without a goal and then scoring 10 goals and 18 points in 13 games before heading to the WJHC.

"Practice hard, and get some confidence in practice and score some goals," said Bertaggia, "I think I had a good practice (today). I just want to help the team and give my best every game."

Brandon will likely be short-staffed again on Friday night with Dominick Favreau having re-injured his shoulder on Wednesday night in his first game back from a six-game absence.

Paul Ciarelli (upper body) will miss his third straight game and Tyrel Seaman (concussion) remains out indefinitely.

Chaff...rookie defenceman Dylan Kuczek (illness) missed practice again on Thursday. His status for Friday's game is up in the air...the Wheat Kings will honour D Brodie Melnychuk prior to Friday's contest for playing his 300th career game with the team earlier this month...Brandon product Brock Sutherland of the Calgary Hitmen scored his first goal of the season in their 9-5 loss to Edmonton on Wednesday night.
