Wheat Kings Fall to Blazers

The Brandon Wheat Kings closed out the first half of their Western Hockey League schedule Friday night with a 3-2 loss to the Kamloops Blazers.

Colin Smith's shorthanded goal 3:29 into the third period snapped a 2-2 tie for the Blazers while Brendan Ranford and J.C. Lipon also scored for Kamloops.

Michael Ferland and Darian Dziurzynski scored for the Wheat Kings, who allowed the first goal in the game for the 12th time in 15 games and never led on Friday night.

Brandon Anderson stopped 36 shots in his fourth straight solid start for the Wheat Kings while Cole Cheveldave made 29 saves for Kamloops.

The loss leaves Brandon with a record of 20-14-1-1 in the first half including a 5-8-0-0 record in the last 13 contests during which they've been outscored 56-50.

The Wheat Kings take an 11-day Christmas break, returning to action December 28th when they host the Regina Pats.
