It's Official - Stone Named to Canada's Roster

Brandon Wheat Kings' captain Mark Stone has officially been named to Canada's team for the 2012 World Junior Hockey Championship.

This marks the fourth straight year a member of the Wheat Kings will skate with Canada at the World Juniors.

Stone's quest for gold will begin Boxing Day when Canada faces Finland.

The team also plays three pre-competition games next week.

Stone, who's Twitter handle is @M_Stoner16, posted this tweet this morning.

Thanks for all the support from everyone. Family, Friends, coaches.. Minor hockey community centre kirkfield westwood. All got me here today

I'm hoping to catch up to Stone later today, and will post his comments if Hockey Canada can make that happen.

The final 22-player roster includes four other WHLers in Oakbank product Quinton Howden of the Moose Jaw Warriors, Mark Pysyk of the Edmonton Oil Kings, Brendan Gallagher of the Vancouver Giants and Ryan Murray of the Everett Silvertips.

I guess, technically, Brett Connelly is considered to be a Prince George Cougar for Junior purposes, although he has spent the entire season with the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning.

Here's the list of the 13 players that were released during the final cutdown this morning:

F Brett Bulmer (Kelowna Rockets)
F Phil Di Giuseppe (University of Michigan)
F Tyler Toffoli (Ottawa '67's)
F Christian Thomas (Oshawa Generals)
F Ty Rattie (Portland Winterhawks)
F Brad Ross (Portland Winterhawks)
