Swiss WJC Tryout for Bertaggia

Alessio Bertaggia
Alessio Bertaggia is going to get a chance to represent his country at the 2012 World Junior Hockey Championship.

The Wheat Kings' import is expected to join Switzerland's team once they arrive in Canada in mid-December and hopes to impress enough in a pair of exhibition games to make the final roster for this year's WJC in Calgary and Edmonton.

"I talked to the coach a couple of days ago, and I'm going to get a chance, I think, before Christmas for training camp," said Bertaggia on Tuesday, "I'm going to give everything to make the team. I'm really happy to play for the Swiss team, so we'll see."

The 5-foot-9, 165 pound Bertaggia played with Switzerland at the World Under-18 Championship last April, scoring one goal and three points in six games.

Bertaggia was ranked 25th among WHL skaters in the NHL Central Scouting Service's preliminary rankings.

He is currently riding a four-game goal-scoring streak, and has 12 goals and 24 points in 26 games with the Wheat Kings.

That's the second best total among rookies in the Western Hockey League.

Chaff...the roster for the Canadian Junior Team Selection Camp is expected to be announced by Hockey Canada on Monday. Brandon Wheat Kings' captain Mark Stone, who leads the WHL with 55 points, should be a lock to be invited.
