Thomson, Lindgren Lead Team MB to Win

Wawanesa product Jordan Thomson had a goal and two assists to lead Manitoba to a 7-3 win over Saskatchewan at the Western Canada Under-16 Challenge Cup in Moose Jaw on Friday.

Wheat Kings' prospect Ryley Lindgren added a pair of goals for Manitoba as they evened their record at 1-and-1.

Two other Brandon prospects contributed to the Manitoba win Friday with Dallas Starodub also scoring and Jayce Hawryluk having two assists to move into second in scoring at the tournament with four points in two games.

The other game Friday saw Wheat Kings' prospect Jordan Papirny stop 18 shots to lead Alberta past British Columbia 2-1.

John Quenneville, Brandon's third round pick in 2011, added an assist for Alberta.

Manitoba plays B.C. to close out the round-robin Saturday, with the winner earning a spot in Sunday's gold medal game.

Alberta, who are 2-and-0, having already clinched a spot in the gold medal game heading into their game with 0-and-2 Saskatchewan.
