Rosters Finalized for U16 Western Canada Challenge Cup

The rosters for the Western Canada Under-16 Challenge Cup have been finalized, and six prospects of the Brandon Wheat Kings will be taking part in the event.

However, defenceman Kord Pankewicz will not be one of them.

The 11th overall pick in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft was left off Team Alberta's roster for the event.

Pankewicz has two goals and four points in four games with the Leduc Oil Kings of the AMHL so far this season. Leduc will be the host team for the Telus Cup National Midget Hockey Championship next April.

Meanwhile, goaltender Jordan Papirny, the 22nd overall pick, and third round selection John Quenneville were chosen to Team Alberta.

Quenneville has one goal and four points in four games this season with the SSAC Athletics of the Alberta Midget Hockey League while Papirny is also playing with SSAC this season.

Earlier this month, Brandon also had four prospects named to Team Manitoba in forwards Ryley Lindgren, Jayce Hawryluk, Brett Kitt and Dallas Starodub.

There were no Brandon prospects named to either Team Saskatchewan or Team B.C. but, then again, the team doesn't have any '96-born players on their protected list from Saskatchewan or British Columbia.

The Western Canada Under-16 Challenge Cup takes place October 27-30 at Mosiac Place in Moose Jaw.
