Ten Things I Think I Think About the Pre-Season

1) If he continues to develop, Jen Meilleur could become a 30-goal scorer at some point in his Western Hockey League career.

2) The jury is still out on the Liam Liston / Corbin Boes netminding tandem. It was assumed goaltending would be a strength with both returning for their second years but the pre-season has proved there's still work to be done here.

3) Ayrton Nikkel is the real deal.

4) Paul Ciarelli looks the best I've ever seen him in a Wheat Kings' uniform. Trying to keep his 20-year old spot seems to have inspired him.

5) Alessio Bertaggia could be an impact player, but needs to share the puck more.

6) The Wheat Kings have been shorthanded the fewest times in the WHL for three straight seasons. That streak is in jeopardy if they don't get the discipline of a couple of players under better control.

7) Hits to the Head haven't been an issue for the Wheat Kings, yet. They went the entire pre-season without being called for a check to the head penalty.

8) Overall, Moose Jaw's new building is the nicest in the WHL's East Division.

9) Cory Clouston's attention to detail is outstanding.

10) Dylan Kuczek was slated to wear #4 this year, but changed to #17 following the airplane disaster in Russia earlier this month. Could a tribute to Brad McCrimmon's number be on tap? If nothing else, it's out of circulation for now.

Love hearing about/seeing pics of all the arenas. There's an out-dated website that shows most of the rinks in the CHL. Since you visit pretty much all of the rinks can you give us your rankings at some point this season? Maybe rate the food too! I did hear long time ago that MJ's old rink had the best hot dogs or burgers?
