Flames Return Ferland to Wheat Kings

The Calgary Flames did the obvious today, returning 19-year old forward Michael Ferland to the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Ferland was a fifth round pick of the Flames in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft and got a chance to participate in his first NHL training camp this month, playing with Calgary in the Young Stars Tournament in Penticton.

The Brandon product, who missed Flames' training camp last September with a knee injury, also played with Calgary's split squad in Vancouver in an NHL pre-season game on Tuesday night, recording an assist in the Flames 4-3 loss to the Canucks.

Ferland, who had 23 goals and 56 points in 56 games last season, is expected to re-join the Wheat Kings in time to play in the WHL regular season opener Thursday in Moose Jaw.

Chaff...the Wheat Kings announced Thursday that they'll honour Bob Cornell, Don Dietrich and Glen Lawson prior to Friday's home opener against Moose Jaw.  All three men will be inducted into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame on October 1st.  For more information, click here.
