Thomson Nervous About Draft

Wawanesa product Jordan Thomson is a good bet to be chosen in the first round of Thursday's Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.

The defenceman is considered the Top Manitoba prospect after spending the 2010-2011 season as an underage with the AAA Midget Southwest Cougars, scoring three goals and 20 points in 51 regular season and playoff games.

"Off the start, it was being nervous about being younger than everyone and possibly smaller," says the 5-foot-11, 165 pound Thomson, "After about a quarter of the season, I had gotten to know what to do and got comfortable after that and really picked up my game from there."

Thomson admits to being contacted by a number of WHL teams, but doesn't really have a feel for who might be more interested in selecting him.

He also understands the Bantam Draft is just the first step in the long process of a career in hockey.

"Doesn't matter if you go first round or tenth round, being drafted is the first stepping stone for a lot of people," says Thomson, "Just to go on, whether its minors or the NHL or whatever for your career, so."

Thomson says he's already feeling the butterflies, and expects to have a restless night tonight.

He adds the plan is to hook up a computer to a television on Thursday morning, and watch the draft 'live' via webcast on the WHL website.

In addition to Thomson, here are some of the other Manitobans to watch for in this year's WHL Bantam Draft...
