WHL Suspends Tigers' Shinkaruk

The Western Hockey League has suspended Medicine Hat forward Hunter Shinkaruk for his blind-side hit on Brandon Wheat Kings' right-winger Brenden Walker during Game #3 of their Eastern Conference Quarter-Final on Monday night.

The WHL website listed the suspension as to-be-determined under supplemental discipline.

The incident happened about midway through the third period of Game #3, with the play going unpenalized by game officials.

Walker left the game for Brandon with what appeared to be a head injury, but was seen back on the ice during the club's post-game celebration.

I'm not sure what Walker's status will be for Game #4 as the Wheat Kings (and myself) took the day away from the rink on Tuesday. I may be able to have an update following Brandon's practice on Wednesday afternoon.

The length of Shinkaruk's suspension will likely be determined before the two teams square off in Game #4 on Thursday night.
