Wheat Kings Headed to Winnipeg for Playoffs

The Brandon Wheat Kings are headed down the Trans Canada highway for the playoffs.

The Wheat Kings are unable to play any of their first round series at Westman Communications Group Place because of the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair.

That means the MTS Centre in Winnipeg will act as the Wheat Kings home away from home for the start of the 2011 post-season.

Brandon will open their first round series with two straight games on the road, with the Wheat Kings then playing Games #3 and #4 of the series on March 28th and 31st in Winnipeg.

Game #6 of the first round series, if necessary, would be held on Monday, April 4th at the MTS Centre.

"While disappointed to not have the Keystone available, we are excited about returning to the MTS Centre," said Wheat Kings'GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon in a release, "Although it has been five years since we last played in Winnipeg, we have enjoyed some very memorable games over the years. Our players will find it very exciting."

Details on ticket prices and when they'll go on sale will be announced next week.

It's the first time in nearly five years Brandon will play playoff games in Winnipeg.

The last time was Game #4 of their first round series with Moose Jaw on March 30, 2006.
