Wheat Kings Double Warriors

The Brandon Wheat Kings closed out their regular season with an 8-4 victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors Saturday night.

David Toews had two goals and two assists, Matt MacKay two goals and an assist and Mark Stone a goal and three assists for Brandon.

The victory allowed Brandon to finish in sixth-place in the WHL's Eastern Conference and above .500 for the season with a 32-31-1-8 record.

"Both important goals for our team and a real accomplishment given where we were at different points during the season," said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon during CKLQ's post-game show, "Guys can feel good about the net result here today, it finalizes out position in the standings and we look forward to moving on."

The Wheat Kings were a season-low 11 games under .500 at 14-25-1-7 following a 9-0 home-ice loss to the Edmonton Oil Kings on January 15th but closed out the season with an 18-6-0-1 record over their last 25 games.

Brandon will now face the Medicine Hat Tigers in the first round of the playoffs, with Game #1 Friday night in Medicine Hat.
