Stone Hits 100 Points as Wheat Kings beat Raiders

Scott Glennie had a goal and three assists to pace the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 7-3 victory over the Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday night.

Matt MacKay added a goal and two helpers for the Wheat Kings, who got goals from seven different players in the contest.

"It was a really good offensive night for us and we really needed this win," said Glennie on CKLQ's post-game show, "We've been having our ups and downs with Prince Albert this year and it's always good beating this team. From where we came this year, and how many wins we've got, it's good that our team is on a roll like this."

Jens Meilleur, Ryan Pulock, Shayne Wiebe, Hampus Gustafsson and Michael Ferland also scored for Brandon while Mark Stone had two assists to each the 100 point mark for the season.

Stone's the first Brandon player to reach 100 points since Eric Fehr in 2004-2005 and just the second in the last 12 years.

The win coupled with Edmonton's 4-0 loss in Saskatoon on Saturday leaves the Wheat Kings three points ahead of the Oil Kings for sixth-place in the WHL's Eastern Conference.

"I think, right now, our team is playing the best we've played all year and right around the playoffs, it's a really good sign," says Glennie, "To stay in the sixth spot would be good for our team and I think we're really confident going into playoff that we can play with anybody."

The Wheat Kings can finish no worse than seventh in the Conference, and are headed for a first round matchup with either Red Deer or Medicine Hat.

Chaff...Hampus Gustafsson has now scored in three straight games...D Rene Hunter left the game briefly in the second period after taking an elbow to the face from Prince Albert's Jonathan Parker. Parker was given a major and game misconduct on the play...Brandon went 3-for-5 on the power-play, and are now 21-for-61 (34.4%) in their last 13 games...Brenden Walker's penalty in the third period ended a string of 153 minutes and 43 seconds without taking a penalty for Brandon.
