Melnychuk Out Indefinitely

The Brandon Wheat Kings will be missing their most veteran defenceman for a much longer period of time than initially expected.

The club announced today that Brodie Melnychuk suffered a fractured left leg back on January 11th in a game against the Saskatoon Blades and will be out indefinitely.

The 19-year old Melnychuk suffered the injury when he blocked a shot from Saskatoon's Stefan Elliott in overtime of an eventually 5-4 shootout loss for the Wheat Kings to the Blades.

Melnychuk missed Brandon's game the next night against Prince Albert, breaking a streak of 208 consecutive games, but played in four of the club's next five games before sitting out the last three in a row.

In a release, the Wheat Kings stated that initial tests proved negative, x-rays this week revealed a fracture to his left leg.

Melnychuk has five goals and 25 points along with a -12 rating in 48 games this season.
