Ciarelli Close to Returning

Paul Ciarelli is getting closer to returning to the Brandon Wheat Kings' lineup.

Ciarelli skated at practice for the first time Tuesday since suffering a severe charleyhorse in a game against Red Deer January 14th.

"It's good to get back out there," said Ciarelli after Tuesday's workout, "It was tough sitting out for almost four weeks now and watching the guys. To back on the ice and skate with the guys, it was real exciting to get back."

Ciarelli has five goals and 13 points in 44 games with the Wheat Kings this season and the return of the defensive-minded forward should help strengthen the club's bottom six and the team's penalty-kill unit.

The Winnipeg product also admits he doesn't want to disrupt too much with the team that has won six of their last nine games.

"I don't want to be the jinx or whatever," chuckled Ciarelli, "Hopefully, I can help us get some wins here toward the end of the season."

Ciarelli also admits his conditioning isn't quite up to par just yet, but is still hopeful about being in the lineup this weekend.

In addition to Ciarelli, rookie defenceman Eric Roy practiced without limitations Tuesday after leaving Brandon's last game Saturday in Swift Current with a foot injury.

The Wheat Kings return to action Friday when they host Medicine Hat to begin a four-game homestand.
