Another Home Ice Win for Wheat Kings

Four goals in a span of three minutes and 59 seconds in the second period propelled the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 7-4 victory over the Regina Pats on Friday night.

Shayne Wiebe kicked off the second period party with his team-leading 30th of the season at the 6:40 mark, one of four power-play goals the Wheat Kings would score on the night.

Mark Stone and Matt MacKay followed with two more on the man advantage before Jens Meilleur completed the scoring barrage with his second of the season at 10:39.

MacKay, Stone and Michael Ferland all finished the game with a goal and two assists while David Toews and Scott Glennie also scored for the Wheat Kings.

Brandon went 4-for-6 on the power-play and MacKay, who managed all three of his point with the man advantage, who extended his point-scoring streak to eight games, gives plenty of credit to his fellow point man Ryan Pulock for working things work well.

"He's a 16-year old guy who's just so steady out there, that it allows me to do things and use my skill to open up chances and open up lanes," says MacKay, "I can't give enough credit to the guys I play with on that power-play...those guys are maybe the four of the most skilled guys in the league so it's really fun getting out there on the power-play with them."

The victory was Brandon's fourth in a row on home ice and sixth in their last eight games and moved the Wheat Kings up another rung in the Eastern Conference standings.

Brandon is now sitting in seventh-place, one point ahead of both Prince Albert and Swift Current and three ahead of Lethbridge.

The Wheat Kings will visit the Broncos on Saturday night (7:00 p.m., Credit Union I-Plex).
