Wheat Kings Score Come-from Behind Win

The Brandon Wheat Kings scored three unanswered third period goals to pick up a 6-4 victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday night.

Matt MacKay led the Wheat Kings with a goal and three assists while Scott Glennie and Mark Stone added a goal and two assists each.

It was the first time in 24 tries this season that Brandon has overcame a deficit heading into the final frame and emerged with a victory.

"Guys in the dressing room are learning how to play down a goal and learning how to play up a goal," said MacKay on CKLQ's post-game show, "As soon we went up there, the older guys and the chatter on the bench was learning how to bury teams. I think we did a great job tonight, the young guys really stepped up."

One of the keys for the Wheat Kings was winning the specialty team battle, scoring a pair of power-play goals and being a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.

In fact, Mark Stone's goal at 7:58 of the third period that proved to be the game-winner was Brandon's second power-play goal of the night.

Michael Ferland had a pair of goals for Brandon, including an empty-net goal, while Shayne Wiebe also scored for the Wheat Kings.

Brody Sutter scored a pair of goals for Lethbridge with Cam Braes and Ryan Moser also scoring for the Hurricanes.

Liam Liston stopped 20 shots in the Wheat Kings net while Brandon Anderson made 33 saves for Lethbridge.

The victory moved Brandon to within five points of eighth-place Prince Albert in the WHL's Eastern Conference with a game in hand.

The Wheat Kings conclude the four-game home stand on Saturday night when they entertain the Swift Current Broncos (7:30 p.m., Westman Communications Group Place).

Chaff...Brandon D Brodie Melnychuk left the game after the first period and did not return...Stone's power-play goal was his 13th of the season, putting him into fourth-place in the WHL.
