Wheat Kings Open Road Trip Tonight

The Brandon Wheat Kings open a four-game road trip Tuesday night as they pay a visit to the Lethbridge Hurricanes (7:30 p.m., CKLQ).

The Wheat Kings will try to win three in a row for the first time since mid-November, and hope to have fourth-year defenceman Brodie Melnychuk back in their lineup Tuesday.

Melnychuk missed Brandon's last game on Saturday against Swift Current after injuring his ankle in Friday's victory over the Hurricanes.

Two injured forwards did not make the trip West with the Wheat Kings in Paul Ciarelli (charleyhorse) and Dominick Favreau (ribs) while the club could have 16-year old Dakota Conroy in their lineup at some point this week.

Conroy, a third round pick in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft, has 11 goals and 30 points in 26 games with the SSAC Athletics of the Alberta Midget Hockey League this season.

He helped SSAC win the Mac's Midget Tournament on New Year's Day.

The Wheat Kings enter the week three points behind Prince Albert for eighth-place and the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and will need to do something this week they haven't done much of this year to narrow the gap; win on the road.

Brandon is winless in six road games (0-4-0-2) since the Christmas break and are 6-16-1-3 on the road this season.

The .308 winning percentage on the road is the worst mark in the WHL.
