Two Minutes For...Five Goals!!

The Brandon Wheat Kings suffered their worst home-ice loss in five and a half years Saturday night, dropping a 9-0 decision to the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Dylan Wruck and T.J. Foster had two goals and two assists each for the Oil Kings while Colton Stephenson also tallied twice for Edmonton.

The Oil Kings broke open a 1-0 game with five goals in a span of one minute and 55 seconds during the second period but Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon said on CKLQ's post-game show that the club's troubles began long before that.

"The second period was only just them reaping the benefits of the first period," said McCrimmon, "I thought that we didn't bring one thing to this game tonight and it was a matter of time. We had a chance after one to respond when the game was still scoreless...that's how much it mattered to us tonight."

Edmonton's Laurent Brossoit stopped 25 shots for the shutout while Michael Tadjdeh and Liam Liston combined for 33 stops for Brandon.

The loss means Brandon has won just three of their last 26 games.

The Wheat Kings are now idle until Friday, when they host the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Chaff...the WHL record for fastest five goals was 76 seconds, set by the Saskatoon Blades on November 9, 1982...the last time Brandon gave up nine goals on home ice in a regular season game was February 5, 1999 in a 9-4 loss to Moose Jaw...Brandon captain Shayne Wiebe left the game after the second period with a suspected shoulder injury while Wheat Kings' F Brenden Walker left in the third with what appeared to be a hand injury.
