Schenn Deal Only Move for Brandon

The Schenn deal was the only one of the day for the Wheat Kings.

Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon says there was some interest in some other players on the club but felt that this season still matters a great deal.

"We want to finish as strongly as we possibly can. We felt it was the right decision to march forward with all of the players that were on our roster," says McCrimmon, "Certainly, we've got some top-end guys that would generate interest throughout the Western Hockey League but we want to win hockey games in the second half. We want to show our young guys the right way and we want to do as well as possible."

The Wheat Kings are currently sitting tenth in the WHL's Eastern Conference, four points back of Prince Albert for eighth-place and the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Seven other deals were completed at the trade deadline, the most significant of which was Calgary trading defenceman Matt MacKenzie, 19, to the Tri-City Americans for F Brooks Macek, D Spencer Humphries and a conditional third round pick in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.

The other big move saw the Medicine Hat Tigers send 18-year-old forward Ryan Harrison and a second round pick in the 2011 bantam draft to Everett in exchange for 19-year-old forward Kellan Tochkin and 18-year-old defenceman Alex Theriau.

Other other moves today...

- Prince Albert send D Ryan Button (19) to Seattle Thunderbirds for F Charles Wells (19), 1st Round Pick in 2011 CHL Import Draft and a conditional pick in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.

- Prince Albert also dealt import F Sebasten Svendsen (19) to the Moose Jaw Warriors for import F Michal Hlinka (17), a third round pick in 2011 and a sixth round pick in 2011.

- Seattle acquired D Mitch Spooner (18) from Regina for a conditional fifth round pick in 2012.

- Lethbridge picked up D Brandon Scheidl (15) from Portland for F Ryley Bennefield (16).

- Vancouver sent D Tanner Sohn (19) to Saskatoon for a 10th round pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.
