Conroy Enjoying Good Season

Dakota Conroy is enjoying a fine season in the Alberta AAA Midget Hockey League.

The 16-year old has 11 goals and 30 points in 26 games with Edmonton’s South Side Athletic Club (SSAC) and helped the Athletics win the prestigious Mac’s Midget Tournament in Calgary earlier this month, scoring five goals and ten points in six games during the tournament.

“I got off to a slow start but after the team went to the Mac’s, it’s just been going uphill from there, and even before then,” said Conroy after Brandon’s game-day skate on Tuesday, “The team’s doing well.”

Conroy spent the first two weeks of the regular season with Brandon before being assigned back to the AAA Midget ranks on October 4th.

The 6-foot-1, 180 pound Conroy feels he’s developed more of an overall game this season.

“I found that when I went back, I became more of a whole player than rather just one-sided, offensive type guy,” says Conroy, “Even though I’m still putting up points, I’ve developed better defensive zone play.”

A third round pick of the Wheat Kings in the 2009 Bantam Draft, Conroy could make his WHL debut Tuesday night when Brandon opens a four-game road trip in Lethbridge.

Chaff…D Brodie Melnychuk (ankle) is expected to be a game-time decision…the Hurricanes will be donning special commemorative jerseys Tuesday. They are replicas of those worn by the 1951 World Champion Lethbridge Maple Leafs.
