Wheat Kings End 11-Game Skid

The Brandon Wheat Kings snapped their 11-game winless streak Sunday night with a 6-2 victory over the Prince Albert Raiders.

13 different players had points for the Wheat Kings, with rookie Jason Swyripa scoring a pair of goals and Michael Ferland contributing three assists for the Wheat Kings.

Two key goals in the game for Brandon including Jordan Fransoo's marker at 8:20 of the second period that came just 21 seconds after the Raiders had tied the game 1-1, and Brenden Walker's 11th of the season at 11:38 of the third period that stretched the Wheat Kings' lead from 3-2 to 4-2.

"That's how you want to play, you want to get the lead and then work your way through the game. It was different for us, because we hadn't had that in our home stand that we've through this week, so that helped us," said Brandon GM/Coach Kelly McCrimmon on CKLQ's post-game show, "The other thing that haven't done is when it was 3-2 in the third, we've had a lot of games like that where we've had that chance to get the next goal to give us some insurance, which the fourth goal certainly did."

Michael Ferland was a force throughout the contest, starting with a first period fight with Austin Connor of the Raiders that resulted in Ferland being cut for four stitches above his left eye while Connor wobbly went to the Raiders' dressing room afterward and did not return.

"It feels good to get back on the winning track here," said Ferland, "We've been having actually pretty good games...the boys are really happy in the dressing room and feels great to get some points, I thought my line played well. We just worked and had a good game."

Paul Ciarelli and Scott Glennie also scored for Brandon while Liam Liston stopped 42 shots in the Wheat Kings' net.

Brandon is now idle until Friday, when they open a home-and-home series with the Moose Jaw Warriors (7:30 p.m., Westman Communications Group Place).
