Schenn Scores in Canadian Win

Brandon Wheat Kings' centre Brayden Schenn notched the Canadian Junior Team's opening goal in their 4-1 victory over Sweden in a pre-tournament game in Toronto.

Schenn's goal 7:32 into the first period was a beauty, cutting to the inside of the Swedish defenceman and then putting a shot past Swedish netminder Robin Lehner just inside the far post.

The two Manitobans on the junior squad also contributed, with Oakbank's Quinton Howden (Moose Jaw) having a pair of assists and Winnipeg product Cody Eakin (Swift Current) scoring an empty-net goal with 46 seconds left.

Zack Kassian and Ryan Johansen also scored for Canada while Olivier Roy stopped 38 shots in the Team Canada goal.

Canada plays their final pre-tournament game Thursday versus Toni Rajala and Finland in Kitchener.

They open the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championship against Russia on Boxing Day.
