Mieritz, Danes Improve to 4-and-0

Brandon Wheat Kings' forward Mark Mieritz and Team Denmark improved to 4-and-0 Friday at the Division I, Group B World Junior Hockey Championship.

Denmark defeated Lithuania 9-1 to improve to 4-and-0.

That sets up a matchup for the Danes against Austria on Saturday, with the winner finishing first and earning a spot in the A Pool for the 2012 World Junior Championship in Calgary and Edmonton.

Mieritz (#18, right) was held pointless in Friday's game, and was one goal and two points in four games at the tournament.

One of quick international note, found out today that former Wheat Kings' goaltender Kurt Jory failed to crack CIS roster for the World University Games in Turkey in late January.

Jory (Brock) had been one of four goaltenders in the tryout camp from December 9-14.

Former WHLers Jim Watt (Spokane, Saskatoon, Chilliwack), Yashar Farmanara (Seattle, Lethbridge, Medicince Hat) and Chris Ray (Kelowna) are among the players on the 22-man roster.
