Warriors Do It to Wheat Kings Again

Another heart-breaking loss for the Brandon Wheat Kings on Saturday night.

Colin Bowman snapped a 3-3 tie with 1:12 left in the third period to lift the Moose Jaw Warriors to a 4-3 victory over Brandon.

The loss was the third in eight days for the Wheat Kings to the Warriors, with all of them coming via 'last-minute' heroics.

Last Saturday, Moose Jaw scored three times in the last 3:07 of the third period including a Quinton Howden goal with 1:12 left to snap a 2-2 tie and went on to win 4-2 while Friday night, MacKenzie Royer's power-play goal with ten seconds left lifted Moose Jaw to a 5-4 win over the Wheat Kings.

Shayne Wiebe scored all three goals for Brandon as the Wheat Kings' captain snapped a five-game pointless streak with his first career WHL hat-trick.

"I'd rather have the win, it'd be a better feeling but you have to take the positives out of the game," said Wiebe on CKLQ's post-game show, "The last few games, we've been playing really well and doing a lot of the right things. We just need to bear down and get the win."

Mark Stone and Paul Ciarelli both added a pair of assists each for the Wheat Kings with Liam Liston stopping 21 shots in the Brandon net.

Brandon outshot Moose Jaw 49-25 overall including 35-14 over the final 40 minutes but were continously stymied by Warriors' netminder Thomas Heemskerk.

The loss extended Brandon's winless streak to seven games and leaves the club with an 11-17-1-1 record overall.

"You can't let it get to you, and can't let your frustration get to your game," adds Wiebe, "You have to keep playing...we're doing a lot of the right things and sooner or later, we're going to get the bounce and the luck to win a game and get out of this slump."

Quinton Howden scored twice for Moose Jaw including a shorthanded goal, the tenth the Wheat Kings have surrendered this season, while Spencer Edwards also tallied for the Warriors.

Brandon's next action is Friday, when they start a two-game road trip by visiting the Edmonton Oil Kings.
