Pulock, Seaman Named to Team West

Two members of the Brandon Wheat Kings were named to Team Western for the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge on Monday.

Defenceman Ryan Pulock and centre Tyrel Seaman will both suit up at the event in Winnipeg and Portage from December 28 – January 4.

Pulock has one goal and six points in 18 games with the Wheat Kings so far this season while Seaman has one goal and three points in 20 contests.

“Both of these guys have had real good seasons to this point in the Western Hockey League,” says Team Western coach Garth Mitchell, “Coming out of the summer, Ryan was probably a little further down the depth chart than what’s he’s played up to. He’s had an exceptional season, in our minds, and is definitely ready to be a huge part of our defence core. Tyrel, who was highly touted coming out of summer camp, has just continued to play well, and I think will play an important role for us.”

Seaman was one of the 11 Saskatchewan players named to the team, while Wheat Kings’ prospects Daniel Asham and Brendan Harms were among the other Manitobans named to the squad.

Asham is currently third in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League in scoring with eight goals and 27 points in 18 games while Harms is second in rookie scoring in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, notching 12 goals and 24 points in 23 games with the Portage Terriers.

Killarney product Reid Gow (Spokane, WHL), Virden product Landon Peel (Swan Valley, MJHL), Brandon product Brayden Cuthbert (Moose Jaw, WHL) and Deloraine product Sutton Olson (Southwest Cougars, MMHL) were the other players from Western Manitoba to make the squad.

Goaltender Chris Driedger (Tri-City, WHL), D Justin Hamonic (Wpg Wild, MMHL), F Brendan Leipsic (Portland, WHL) and F Brett Stovin (Eastman, MMHL) round out the Manitoba contingent.

Joining Seaman as Saskatchewan WHLers named to Team West are D Brady Gaudet (Kamloops), D Derek Pouliot (Moose Jaw), D Damon Severson (Portland), F Colton Heffley (Kamloops), F Shea Howorko (Swift Current), F Logan McVeigh (Kamloops) and F Chandler Stephanson (Regina).

Hockey Manitoba also named the U-16 team that'll represent our province at the 2011 Canada Winter Games in February.

Carberry product Daylon Creasy of the Southwest Cougars (MMHL) was the only Western Manitoba played named to that team while D Garet Bruce was the only Wheat Kings' prospect to make the grade.
